Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2

After 10 years since the first film, the final films came out for one of the biggest blockbuster releases of the summer.   I myself had ordered the double featured for midnight release which had let me watch part 1 and part 2 for a mere 20 dollars.   I decided that after the movie craze had subsided that I would do a review of the movie.

The plot revolves Harry Potter and his friends Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger setting out to find Lord Voldemort’s Horcruxes which are objects that contain a piece of the evil wizard’s soul.  They search around the wizarding world in order to find the pieces that harbor bits of his soul and destroy them so that Harry the chosen one could fulfill his destiny and finish off Voldemort.  The film has many action packed scenes as well as some touching scenes as well.  I especially enjoyed the fact that the score was perfect to the films tone of pace.

As I watched the film I noticed many things missing from the books that the movie did not include but, due to the fact that they showed the War of Hogwarts, I didn’t care as much as I should have.  Things in the movie that stood out were the literary elements that were presented.  Literature geeks praised as the battle of good and evil went all out and even cheered when side character Neville Longbottom pulled the sword out of the sorting hat in order to… oops I said too much.  That scene itself referenced King Arthur pulling the sword from the stone.  Daniel Racliffe (Potter), Emma Watson (Granger), & Rupert Grint (Weasley) finally closed a large part of their life after the conclusion of this film.  I was moved as well seeing as there were no future books and no future movies that I had nothing from my childhood to look forward to anymore.  It was the epilogue in book and film that reminded that Harry Potter will live in the future generation of children.

Review 1: Batman: Arkham Asylum

Product: Video Game

Review By IGN :

Review August 21, 2009

IGN is targeting gamers with what they do best; give their reviews on all the upcoming and latest games.  The reviewer goes in dept with how the game plays out.  He talks about the story, setting, characters and all the extra activities to do throughout the game.  The Playstation 3 review is the same as the Xbox review though the only difference that the reviewer says that the graphics are sharper on the xbox but I can strongly disagree.  They talk about how the player takes control of the famous hero and use his skill to take out the villains throughout the game.  A strong appraisal to the game was the voice actors, many who acted in the famous Batman The Animated Series.  IGN helps define the pros and cons of the game and the article is strongly recommended for those who are looking on opinion for this game or any game in general.

Review 2: The Lion King 3D

Product: Film

Review By Elizabeth Weitzman:

September 17, 2011

The review is the writer disliking the fact that Disney is cashing in a pre-made product.  The author Elizabeth Weitzman,  talks about movie in outline form.  She talks about the intimacy of the movie and many theme it represents two being: life and death.  She says that even though she feels as though the ticket is too much (it really wasn’t), that it was worth the money she spent to go watch the film.  I believe that her review was very helpful and informative.  She lets the audience know that many of the young children that are now adult can see it again and her only complaint really is that she is afraid the ticket prices are too high. Overall her review is just informative if nothing more.

Review 3: IPhone 4

Product: Gadget/Phone

Review By Joshua Topsky

January 22nd, 2010

The review goes over the phone overall.  He speaks about the display, camera, hardware, and design.   The audience clearly is after tech geeks and other people who are looking into purchasing the phone.  Being an owner of the IPhone 3GS I found this review to be slightly helpful because I got to see what got upgraded and what advantages were there to purchasing a new phone.  I appreciate that the reviewer goes over the time to do specs check up and how he makes sure we are able to understand what he is saying.  The only criticism that can be given is that if he is truly a tech specialist among these things and that unless he has a credentials elsewhere I can not just only trust his opinion.

Business Letter Ex. 2

In this second letter, I write to the students and their parents being the secondary audience. This letter differs from that of the teachers by way it will be written, I write to them in order to make them think they have a choice but in reality they don’t.

Greeting Parents & Guardians:

Good Evening, My name is Paul Cao and I’m the current acting principle of Pallet Town High School.  I am writing to let you know that I will be implementing a ten minute free write before taking all major tests.  This will be done in order for the students to able to circulate out all the stress they feel onto their paper.

I understand that most of the students will think of it as a chore, but in reality think about it; Would you rather be forced to write or have the knowledge that there will some type of activity before the culminating test?  It has been proven that if a student is forced to write, they will either refuse or not write at all.  Therefore I have decided to give them the “heads-up” if you will.

Within the ten minute free write period, I urge all students to try and write as much as possible.  It doesn’t have to be anything in specific, just write out their worries about the test and add anything personal if needed to get it out of their system,  I hope this method is effective for all test takers that know they can do well but do bad on the tests.

Thank You,

Paul Cao

Acting Principal of Pallet Town High School.

Business Letter Ex. 1

This first letter is written to teachers as  I take the role of acting principle.  My goal here to convince the teachers to have their students free write for ten minutes before taking a test because of better results.

To All Teachers

I know that this late into the season, we are all tired from the grading and deserve a well earned break this coming December.  I write this because I have decided to implement a ten minute free write period to all the high school students before test taking.  I understand that some of you will not like the sound of the idea, but hear me out.  After reading an article about how students would excel a little better after the free write, I think it does not hurt us in any way to try this method.

Due to the changes I will have in store for the school, I have decided that it will be best for you not to have to grade the free writes.  It will take much time off your hands and you guys will not have to do much more.   This method is optional and I suggest that if you would not like your whole class to partake in this, than at least think about giving this method to the worst test takers and see if they do any better.  I will have someone from the office collect these free writes and collect the scores of their former test and test given with the free write and see if results occur.

I hope that this method turns out for the best, and if it does that you will all see this in a positive light.

Thank You,

Paul Cao

How to Write a Business Letter

Whenever I am given an assignment, the first place I go to first is the online world usually through Google.  Looking for information in a textbook or in a library is usually outdated, why online resources are usually up to date with the latest and greatest bits of information that we use to intergrate into our daily lives. I looked through three different websites on how to write a proper business letter.

http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/653/01/ – Owl Purdue was most useful website I discovered. It was updated and had everything I needed to know on how to write a proper business letter and I figured out how to make it sound professional as possible. This page is highly recommended for those looking to start somewhere.

http://www.writing-business-letters.com/business-letter-of-introduction.html – Writing Business Letters was the second website I clicked on and looked as more useful then the others but less useful than Purdue. It has the standard information. Interestingly enough it has a advertisement for 3001 Business & Sales Letters. Unfortunately with the way are with money, I don’t think anyone would be interested in purchasing letter techniques.

http://www.eduers.com/businessletter/index.html – I used the last one because it does have a sample and because it was suggested from the writing class. A checklist is the first thing you see when you click on the page. I found it useful to make sure I followed the “guidelines” or a “standard” in order to make sure I do my letter correctly.

Personal Reflection

This is not class material.

So lately I have been on this crazy ego trip. I think it happened about a month ago when I was talking to my friends Jackie and Kyle over lunch. We had been talking about the most random things when Jackie started dropping the F-bomb. After he proceeded to defend his actions and explain how it is okay to be an asshole. Maybe I took it too literally because not too far after I went on this ego boost. At first I did not notice the personality change but it was not long until someone complained about it. I had become the scum of the earth; I had no emotional connection over any offensive thing I would do or say. However after I took a few reality checks from people today, I decided to do some ego control. It did not really help because I ended up calling this Hufflepuff I know a bitch (as a joke) and then after realizing what I did, I had a “heart to heart” with this Hufflepuff kind of. Needless to say I think it’s time to return to “normal” whatever “normal” may be.

On a side note
I don’t do well with people jumping out at me.
